Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
