No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
