Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a bit and headed to New York to play some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he would play many hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might boost his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on poker.

The real advancement in his abilities happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently challenge each other. Howard was able to access some of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his logical thinking abilities. He used these strategic ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena today. Howard moved to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
