NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
