Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
