Stu is considered by most to the finest No Limit Hold’em Poker gambler ever.
The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in 1953 and started betting poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young gambler started out playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his very first gin tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the time he turned fourteen the little poker genius had turned pro and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the history books by succeeding $10,000 in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still appears in New York today.
The fast speaking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic superstars such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a true talent for playing poker but in spite of his achievements in Hold em poker, he preferred playing gin.
Stu once said that there may several day be a far better No Limit Texas holdem player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a greater gin player.
In 1980 Stu was put on the world map as one of the very best Hold’em Poker gamblers in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the very first time. Extraordinarily it was the very first time he had entered the tournament.
The right after year he put aside any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by effectively defending his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
Except this poker master also struggled with substance abuse and a year following succeeding his third title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had passed away from cardiac arrest which was triggered by his lifestyle.
