Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
