No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
